Unsolicited Advice: Tattoo

Tattoo is an art.

It is a way to express one's emotions and beliefs.
Sadly, In some countries getting a tattoo is still a taboo.

People with tattoos are stereotyped as people with confused mind and violent behavior.

Recently, a friend of mine announced on Facebook that she is getting a tattoo.
Comments on her post started pouring in.

Some are expressing delight over her decision to get inked.

Most are disapproving.  Being a high school teacher in this country with visible tattoos is a big NO.

The case here is that she is not asking for advice whether to do it or not.
People are so quick on giving advice.
- If I were you I wouldn't do it.
- It's dirty.
- It is not necessary. You don't need it.
- You are a teacher. You're not supposed to do that.

Why?

Why would we give unsolicited advice to someone who has already made up her mind and just happy to tell us that she is finally doing something that she has been planning to do for the longest time.

What is so wrong about tattoos?

Norms of the society are just guideline.

Norms should not be used to limit people from enjoying their life and expressing themselves most especially when these decisions do not really affect others nor have a negative impact on the person's life.

On norms, tattoos and stereotyping, Individuality is screaming without a voice while people are busy trying to be like everyone else.
